Sweden May 2025: Audi (+59.2%), Skoda (+43.8%) and Polestar (+39%) impress
Polestar ranks at a record 10th place in Sweden in May.
New car sales in Sweden edge up 2.3% year-on-year in May to 25,675 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 6.1% to 113,411. Rechargeable cars are up 20.8% to 16,236 units and 63.2% share vs. 53.6% a year ago. In the detail, BEVs are up 24.3% to 9,469 and 36.9% share vs. 30.3% in May 2024 and PHEVs progress 16.2% to 6,767 and 26.4% share vs. 23.2% last year.
Volvo (-1.9%) remains dominant at home with 19.5% of the market vs. 18.6% so far this year. Volkswagen (+23.2%) surges ahead, in line with its YTD evolution at +55.5%. Toyota (-16.6%) struggles at #3 but Kia (+9.5%) and Audi (+59.2%) both over perform to close the Top 5. Skoda (+43.8%) and Polestar (+39%), the latter posting its first Top 10 finish of the year at #10, its record ranking also hit last June and December. Lynk & Co (+73.2%), Fiat (+66%) and Nissan (+49%) shine below. Tesla is down -53.7%.
Over in the models lane, the Volvo XC60 (-4.9%) confirms its leadership with a 6.2% share ahead of the Volvo XC40 (+22.2%) at #2. The VW ID.7 (+288.9%) lodges another fantastic month at #3 above the new Kia EV3, equalling its ranking record at #4, also reached last February. Volvo completes the Top 6 with the EX30 (-30.3%) and S/V60 (-33%) both in great difficulty. The Tesla Model Y (-46.2%) is back up to #7 but implodes year-on-year, it now ranks #5 year-to-date whereas it topped the overall charts last year. Excellent performance of the Skoda Kodiaq (+153.1%) at #8 and #6 YTD vs. #27 over 2024.
