Netherlands May 2025: Skoda Elroq best-seller
The Skoda Elroq is the best-selling vehicle in the Netherlands in May.
The Dutch new car market steps up a sturdy +7.3% year-on-year in May to 30,188 registrations. However due to a slow start of the year the YTD volume remains in negative at -6% to 148,.610. HEVs hold 49.2% of the market at 14,850 sales, followed by BEVs at 34.6% and 10,440, Petrol at 14.2% and 4,288, diesel at 1.7% and 510 and LPG at 0.3% and 100 units. Kia (-7.3%) goes agains the overall positive trend but remains the most popular carmaker in the country with 10.2% share. Skoda (+65.4%) scores the biggest gain in the Top 10, repeating at #2 with 8% share and now up to #5 year-to-date. This is the Czech brand’s best performance in the Netherlands since May 2021 (#2 and 8.5% share). Toyota (+7.1%) follows the market at #3 ahead of a surging Volkswagen (+32%). Renault (+39.8%) is also in great shape at #7. Tesla is down -36.3% to #13.
In the models charts, the new Skoda Elroq ends four consecutive months of Kia EV3 reign and easily takes control with 3.6% share. The Netherlands is the second country in the world where the Elroq ranks #1 after topping the charts in Denmark last month. The Elroq is shaping up to be a tremendous success as it was the best-selling BEV in Europe in April. The Kia Picanto (+13.6%) is up one spot on April to #2, distancing the Kia EV3. Note Kia monopolises the YTD podium with the Niro (-55.9%) at #3. The Tesla Model Y (-42.5%) rallies back up 42 ranks on last month to #4 but freefall year-on-year.
