Malaysia May 2025: Perodua Bezza at 12.4% share
The Perodua Bezza remains the best-selling vehicle at home.
73,964 new cars hit Malaysian roads in May, leading to a year-to-date tally standing at 335,605. Perodua continues to dominate the brands ranking head and shoulders at 42.5% share, similar to its YTD level of 42.9%. Proton falls back to 17.2% of the market after reaching 18.8% last month and holds 17.6% so far this year. Toyota (15%), Honda (8%) and Chery (1.9%) round out the Top 5. BYD repeats at #6 vs. #8 year-to-date and Tesla jumps from #25 last month to #9 with 1.5% share. It ranks #16 year-to-date, the same as it did over the Full Year 2024.
Model-wise, the Malaysian market stands out with its stability, with the Top 7 identical to last month. The Perodua Bezza leads the way with 12.4% share, followed by the Perodua Axia (10.3%) and Myvi (8.4%). The Saga remains Proton’s best-seller at #4 ahead of two more Peroduas: the Alza and Ativa, and the best-selling foreign model the Toyota Vios at #7. The Toyota Hilux is up one spot on April to #8 while the Honda City is up two to #9. The Tesla Model Y is up 100 ranks to #18 and the Proton e.MAS 7 loses its title of #1 EV in the country at #21.
