Belgium May 2025: Peugeot (+54.8%), Dacia (+43.3%) defy market off -11.7%

Peugeot is #4 in the Belgian brands ranking in May.

34,338 new cars hit Belgian roads in May, a stark -11.7% year-on-year recession. The channel behaviour varies wildly, with private sales up 1.6% to 44.5% share but fleet sales down -20.1% to 55.5% share. The most popular fuel types for the month are petrol (42%), BEV (33%) and PHEV (11.2%). Year-to-date, the market is down -9.7% to 193,089. Here too private sales resist at +7.4% to 45.9% share whereas fleet sales sink -20.4% to 54.1%. Petrol holds a 42.2% share, BEV is at 33.3%, HEV at 12% and PHEV at 8.4%.

This month and despite falling faster than the market, Volkswagen (-14.8%) scores its first win of the year and third in the past 12 months (add June and December 2024). It topples traditional leader BMW (-22.7%) for 44 sales. Of course BMW remains the YTD leader with 11.5% of the market. Audi (-13.2%) rallies back up three spots on last month to #3, distancing Peugeot (+54.8%) and Dacia (+43.3%) both in outstanding shape. Skoda (+5.7%) is the only remaining Top 10 member in positive, with Volvo (-40.9%) in dire straits and Toyota (-16.2%), Renault (-14.4%) and Mercedes (-12.7%) all losing share year-on-year. Below, notice Mini (+151.1%), BYD (+51.3%) and Polestar (+46.3%).
