New Zealand April 2025: Toyota RAV4 back in charge in weak market
The Toyota RAV4 is the most popular vehicle in New Zealand.
8,839 new vehicles found a buyer in New Zealand in April, a -4.3% year-on-year contraction. The year-to-date tally is now down -4.9% to 41,031 units. The Top four brands all fall faster than the market. Toyota is off -8.8% to 24.6% share vs. 23.2% so far this year, Ford sinks -27.5% to climbs one spot on March to #2, overtaking Mitsubishi (-10.9%) with Kia (-7.9%) in tow. Nissan (+2.8%) edges up to stay at #5 ahed of Suzuki (-31.1%). BYD (+771.4%) lodges a third Top 10 finish this year at #10 while MG (+44.7%) and Mazda (+35.1%) impress and Hyundai (+3.2%) pushes up.
Over in the models charts, the Toyota RAV4 (-31.1%) is back in charge despite a steep year-on-year drop, and cements its YTD domination. The Ford Ranger (-19.5%), #1 last month, is down to #2 and stuck in third place in the YTD race below the Toyota Hilux (+25.5%) in great shape this month. The Mitsubishi ASX (+82.8%) surges ahead to #4, a ranking it now also holds year-to-date. The Mitsubishi Outlander (+3.3%) closes out the Top 5. The MG ZS (+31.3%) and Nissan Navara (+25.3%) also shine below. The new BYD Shark 6 is up one spot on March to #12 and ranks #11 year-to-date.
