Indonesia April 2025: BYD up to #5 brand, smashes all records
The BYD Sealion 7 is inside the Indonesian Top 10 in April.
New vehicle wholesales in Indonesia edge up 5.3% year-on-year in April to 51,205 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -2.8% to 256,368. Retail sales are off -3% to 57,031 for the month and down -7.6% year-to-date to 267,514.
In the wholesales brands ranking, Toyota (+5.8%) matched the market to 31.4% share, but the next three brands all fall down: Daihatsu is off -6.3%, Suzuki down -16.9% and Mitsubishi at -5.4%. In contrast, newcomer BYD breaks into the Indonesian Top 5 brands for the first time at #5, smashing its share record to 6.8% from a previous best of 4.5% reached just last month. Chery (+174.6%) also breaks all its records and hits 8th place this month. Retail-wise, the Top 5 brands are all in negative, with Honda (-30.2%) and Daihatsu (-21.1%) hit the hardest and Suzuki (-18.5%), Mitsubishi (-13.3%) and Toyota (-4.9%) also in trouble. BYD stays at #6 with 6.2% share.
The Toyota Kijang Innova (+63.6%) lodges a 4th consecutive monthly win with a stellar 9% share. It is followed by the Daihatsu Sigra (+7.5%), Toyota Avanza (-0.4%) and Honda Brio (+6.9%). As a result the Avanza is up one spot year-to-date to #4. The Toyota Rush (-34.2%) suffers and rounds out the Top 5. The Daihatsu Ayla (+25.3%) and Gran Max Pikap (+19.9%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 but the performer of the month is the new BYD Sealion 7, breaking into the Top 10 for the first time at #9. The next best-selling recent launches are the BYD M6 at #13 and the Denza D9 at #16.
