India March 2025: Hyundai Creta #1, new Kylaq pushes Skoda to record high

The Skoda Kylaq shifted 5,327 units in March.

New car wholesales in India jump 4.5% year-on-year in March to 385,842 units, a new record for the month. It’s the fifth consecutive year the March record is broken. Q1 volumes are up 2.9% to an all time high 1,168,071. Maruti Suzuki (-1.3%) is stable but sees its market share drop to 39.1% vs. 41.5% so far this year. Hyundai (-2.2%) also underperforms but is back up to its traditional 2nd place with 13.4% share. Just 200 units below is Tata (+3%) also up one spot on February while Mahindra (+18.3%) is down two to #4 but still manages an excellent year-on-year growth. Kia (+19.2%), MG (+18.4%) and Toyota (+13%) also impress but the performer of the month is Skoda (+164.9%) breaking its all time monthly volume record at 7,422 and its ranking record at #7. This is solely due to the new Kylaq accounting for 72% of the brand’s sales for the month.

The Hyundai Creta (+9.7%) takes the models pole position for the 4th time ever after May 2020, May 2021 and July 2024, delivering its 2nd highest monthly volume. It was a very close finish in the models charts with just 1,693 sales separating the 1st-placed with the 7th. The Maruti Suzuki Swift (+12.8%) and Tata Punch (+1%) round out the podium ahead of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (+4.9%), Ertiga (+12.9%) and Vitara Brezza (+13.2%). The Mahindra XUV300/3X0 (+240.5%), Thar (+47.7%) and Tata Tiago (+24.5%) impress below.
