Belgium March 2025: Peugeot (+65.3%) undeterred , Tesla (-69.3%) collapses
Peugeot delivers the best year-on-year performance in the Top 15

Tough month again for new car sales in Belgium at -10.2% year-on-year in March to 40,184 units. The year-to-date tally is down by a similar -10.5% to 120,939. Over Q1, private sales are up 8.2% to 46.6% share whereas company sales drop -8.2% to 53.4% share. This is compared to 38.4% and 61.6% respectively over the Full Year 2024. Petrol (+0.3%) remains the favourite propulsion type at 42.1% share diesel is down -1.6% to 3.3% share, PHEV off -7.1% to 7.8% share, HEV up 3.4% to 12.6% and BEV up 4.9% to 33.4%. 62.9% of private buyers choose petrol whereas 54.2% of business customers choose BEV.
BMW (+4.1%) defies the surrounding gloom with a small uptick leading to a 11.5% market share vs. 12.3% so far this year. Volkswagen (-8.1%) and Mercedes (-8.7%) keep their fall below the market rate but Audi (-20.5%) struggles. Dacia (-7.3%) rounds out the Top 5 in lukewarm fashion. Renault (+4%) delivers another positive month but drops three ranks on February to #3. Peugeot (+65.3%) is the best performer in the Top 15. Mini (+186.4%), BYD (+128.2%), Fiat (+72%) and Cupra (+54.9%) all impress below just as Tesla (-69.3%) collapses.
In the models ranking, the BMW X1 (+37.5%) increase its lead over the rest of the field, followed by the Dacia Sandero (-10.9%) and Toyota Yaris (-16.6%). The BMW X2 surges from outside the Full Year 2024 charts directly into 4th place ahead of the Renault Clio (+24.7%). The BMW 4 Series is up to #6 and the Mini Cooper up to #8. Notice also the VW ID.4 soaring to #13, the Mercedes EQB up to #15, the Audi Q6 at #16 and the Mercedes EQA at #20. The Tesla Model Y is off -66.5% to #13.
We now have access to a Top 25 models ranking divided by propulsion type. We discover that the BMW iX1 is actually the #1 model, followed by the Dacia Sandero Petrol and Toyota Yaris HEV. BMW places a further two models inside the Top 5 with the i4 at #4 and iX2 at #5. Spectacularly, BMW monopolises the Flanders podium with the X1, 4 Series and X2 in the lead. The Dacia Sandero, Renault Clio and Toyota Yaris top the Wallonia charts. The Citroen C3 is #1 in Brussels. Private buyers prefer the Dacia Sandero, Toyota Yaris and Dacia Duster while fleet sales go to the BMW X1, 4 Series and Audi Q4.
