Portugal February 2025: Peugeot 208 soars to first place in wobbly market
The Peugeot 208 is the best-selling car in Portugal in February.
Worryingly, Portuguese new car sales are down again this month at -5.1% to 19,463 units. This means the year-to-date tally is off -6.3% to 33,967. Peugeot (-6.5%) is the faraway leader once again at 12.6% share for the month and 11.4% year-to-date. Renault (-5.8%) also recedes year-on-year but climbs four spots on January to #2, passing sister brand Dacia (+13.2%) at #3. The next 5 brands all defy the negative market with double-digit gains. Volkswagen (+37.7%) is the most dynamic ahead of Nissan (+18.7%), Toyota (+12%), BMW (+10.6%) and Mercedes (+10.7%). Tesla sinks -52.6% at #12. Below, BYD (+186.2%), MG (+131.5%) and Mini (+74.8%) stand out.
The Peugeot 208 (+49.4%) takes control of the models charts, up six spots on January to secure its first win since last October. The Renault Clio (+63.8%) also sports a splendid gain and climbs 9 ranks to #2. Leader over the Full Year 2024, the Dacia Sandero (+24.9%) falls to #3 despite a strong uptick, but stays #1 year-to-date. The Peugeot 2008 (-13.7%) and Renault Captur (-49.7%) complete the Top 5 in wobbly fashion. The Nissan Qashqai (+27%) and Juke (+2.3%) are the only gainers in the remainder of the Top 10, with the Tesla Model 3 (-45.8%), Peugeot 308 (-44.8%) and Citroen C3 (-36.8%) all freefalling.
