Ireland February 2025: Registrations down -14.8%

The Hyundai Tucson remains the favourite of Irish customers.

After a solid start of the year, Irish new car sales stumble in February at -14.8% to 14,002 units. This is enough to pull the year-to-date tally into negative territory at -0.8% to 47,473. Strikingly, 10 of the Top 12 brands are in negative this month. Toyota (-11.5%) resists better than the market but at 11.5% share it is well below the 16% it commanded in January. Skoda (-43.3%) collapses on extraordinary high year-ago volumes but steps up two spots on January to #2. Volkswagen (-16.7%) stays at #4 ahead of Hyundai (+6.8%). Kia (-1.8%) holds its own to round out the Top 5 above Audi (-22.2%). BMW (+16.3%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 13 and advances five ranks on last month to #7. Nissan (-28.5%), Peugeot (-21.8%) and Renault (-18.5%) are hit the hardest below. In contrast with the other markets we have covered so far, Tesla (+14.4%) is actually up at #13.

Over in the models charts, the Hyundai Tucson (+6.4%) is the perennial leader, having ranked #1 for 7 of the past 9 years. It continues its domination in February albeit with “just” 4.5% share vs. 5.1% after two months this year. The Skoda Octavia (-47.4%), faraway leader a year ago, falls back to earth but still ranks #2 above the Toyota RAV4 (+3.4%) up one spot on January to #3. The Kia Sportage (-40.9%) is in trouble at #4 while the Tesla Model 3 (+44.5%) surges to #5 VS. #107 last month. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+46.4%) is also in great shape below and stays #2 year-to-date. All other Top 10 models drop by double-digits. The top selling recent launches are the Kia EV3 (#16), Renault Symbioz (#17), Hyundai Inster (#19) and BYD Seal U (#21).
