Indonesia February 2025: Denza shoots up

Denza is up to #13 brand for its first full month of sales.

The Indonesian new wholesales market is back into positive territory in February at +2.2% to 72,295 but retail sales are off -0.6% to 69,872. Keep in mind February 2024 wholesales were down -18.7% on the year prior and retail sales down -16.3%, so we remain at historically low levels. Year-to-date, wholesales are down -4.3% to 134,227 and retail sales off -9.9% to 133,901.

Toyota (+3.7%) maintains its stranglehold with 33.7% share ahead of a struggling Daihatsu (-20.7%) and a weak Honda (-3.6%). Mitsubishi advances 11.5% to 9.2% share while the next three carmakers all post negative result: Suzuki (-4.9%) is followed by Hyundai (-8.3%) and Mitsubishi Fuso (-6.4%). Wuling is back up a splendid 61.3% to #8 on a particularly low year-ago result. The Chinese have a great month indeed, with Chery up 240.6%) to #11, BYD at 1.9% share like last month and Denza surging 14 ranks on January to #13 for its first full month in market. We welcome Jetour at #24.

Retail-wise, Toyota (+0.4%) distances six brands in negative, with Mitsubishi (-2.2%) and Hyundai (-6.1%) faring best and Daihatsu (-15.6%), Honda (-14%), Suzuki (-12%) and Isuzu (-10.9%) struggling. Denza lands directly at #13.

Over in the models charts, the Toyota Kijang Innova (+60%) surges ahead to hold onto the top spot ahead of the Honda Brio (+18.4%) repeating at #2. The Toyota Calya (+12.7%) and Daihatsu Gran Max Pikap (+11.3%) follow with very dynamic performances also. #1 a year ago, the Daihatsu Sigra (-40.5%) falls to #5 ahead of three sinking models: the Toyota Rush (-19.5%), Avanza (-34.1%) and Mitsubishi Xpander (-21.1%). Two recent MPV launches shine: the BYD M6 is up nine spots on last month to #19 and the Denza D9 is up 58 to #23.
