Greece January 2025: Corsa and Astra push Opel up to #2 in weak market (-16.4%)

The Opel Astra is inside the Greek Top 10 in January.

10,659 new cars hit Greek roads in January, a stark -16.4% year-on-year fall. Toyota (-4%) easily remains in control of the brands ranking with 17.5% share, while Opel (+19.3%) rallies back up a stunning 18 spots on December to land in 2nd place overall for the month with 10.3% share. This is compared with 4.7% over the Full Year 2024. Peugeot (-24.9%) is back up to #3 but struggles year-on-year just as Hyundai (-4.1%) resists at #4. Citroen (-52%) is in complete freefall at #5. MG (+10.8%) breaks all its records at #8, 461 sales and 4.3% share, smashing its previous best of #13, 416 and 3.3% hit exactly one year ago in January 2024. BMW (+6.2%) is also in positive in the remainder of the Top 10.

Model-wise, the Opel Corsa (+26%) scores its first monthly win since May 2023 with a commanding 6.2% share. It ranked #55 in December. The Peugeot 2008 (-5.9%) takes the 2nd spot at 6% share vs. 3.6% over the Full Year 2024 when it ranked #3. Leader last month and over the FY2024, the Toyota Yaris Cross (+115.7%) has to contend with the third position in January but surges year-on-year. Leaders a year ago, the Citroen C3 (-46.8%) and Toyota Yaris (-46.9%) collapse and round out the Top 5. Below, notice the Opel Astra (+2023.1%), Hyundai i20 (+56.8%), BMW X1 (+45.6%) and Toyota C-HR (+11.4%) all posting brilliant upticks.

  1. I just checked out the article on Greece’s January 2025 car sales, and it’s fascinating to see how well the Corsa and Astra are performing for Opel! It’s interesting to note how they managed to push Opel up to the second spot in a challenging market. The insights on consumer preferences and the overall market trends are really helpful for understanding the automotive landscape in Greece. Great analysis—looking forward to seeing how the rest of the year unfolds!

  2. STLA 30% market share. A great success. Of course they are rental companies, but the margin is probably enough not to lose money.
Skoda and Seat couldn’t offer anything. Renault didn’t either.
