Czechia January 2025: Market off -5%, Skoda Elroq lands
The Skoda Elroq makes its first appearance in the Czech charts.
Czech new car sales drop -5% in January to 19,347. Local behemoth Skoda (-18.1%) freefalls on a particularly high year-ago basis when it signed its highest market share in 4 years at 42.3%. It falls to a still very reasonable 36.5% this month, compared with 33.7% over the Full Year 2024. Hyundai (+9.3%) returns to the 2nd place it held over the FY2024, with Volkswagen (+4%) also up one spot on December to #3. Toyota (-12%) falls two ranks to #4 whereas Ford (+74.4%), Audi (+41.5%), Mercedes (+36.9%) and Kia (+21.9%) all defy the negative market with splendid year-on-year gains.
Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (-35.2%) freefalls but easily retains the top spot with 8.5% share. The Skoda Kodiaq (+10.2%) follows ahead of the Kamiq (-39.4%), Scala (-12.9%) and Fabia (-29.3%) all falling faster than the market. The Karoq (+36.6%) stuns with a very solid uptick. The Hyundai i30 (+4.8%) is the best of the rest again, distancing the Kia Ceed (+51.9%) and Hyundai Tucson (+4.7%). The VW Golf (+65.8%) impresses just outside the Top 10. We welcome the Skoda Elroq at #23, just below its fellow BEV the Enyaq (#19) itself up 101.1% year-on-year.
