Austria January 2025: Audi Q8, BYD Seal and Cupra Terramar hit record rankings
First Austrian Top 20 finish for the Cupra Terramar.
It’s a splendid start of the year for new car sales in Austria, up 16.5% year-on-year in January to 20,448 units. The Top 3 brands all belong to the VW Group and all beat the market: Volkswagen is up 25.2% to 14.4% share vs. 14.2% over the Full Year 2024, Skoda is up 21.4% to 12.2% vs. 10.1% and Audi up 20.6% to 8.6% vs. 6%. In contrast BMW (-2.1%) is weak at #4. Seat (+14.3%) returns to the 5th spot it held in 2024 ahead of a sturdy Mercedes (+29.5%). Cupra (+98.3%) almost doubles its sales year-on-year and surges 10 spots on December to land at #7 with 4.7% of the market, equalling its record share also hit last November. BYD (+205.7%), Hyundai (+166%), Renault (+90.7%) and Opel (+49.8%) also impress below.
Over in the models charts, the Skoda Octavia (+29.3%) scores a third win in the past 4 months with a dominant 4% share. It distances the Seat Ibiza (+47%) up 18 ranks on last month to #2. Leader over the Full Year 2024 but down to #11 last month, the VW Golf (-13.7%) is back up to #3 but sinks year-on-year. The Dacia Sandero (+40.5%) and Skoda Karoq (+37.3%) post very strong result to round out the Top 5. The Audi Q8 (+75%) is up to a record 6th place overall, smashing its previous best of #15 hit in January 2024. The BYD Seal (+765.9%) also hit a new ranking best at #7, eclipsing the #8 it reached in October and November last year. First Top 20 finish for the new Cupra Terramar landing directly at #11.
