Sweden October 2024: Volvo at 20.5% share, VW ID.7 up to #4

The VW ID.7 reaches a world best #4 in Sweden in October.

The Swedish new car market is stable in October at 25.026 registrations. The year-to-date tally is however in difficulty at -7% to 218,417. EV sales are off 6.7% to 8,780 and 35.1% share vs. 37.6% a year ago whereas PHEVs surge 18.1% to 6,789 units and 27.1% share vs. 23% in October 2023. All in all, rechargeable vehicles hold a 62.3% market share this month vs. 60.6% last year. 

Volvo (+38.3%) lodges a fantastic score and returns to the #1 spot with 20.5% share vs. 17.3% so far this year, its highest market share in 2024. All remaining Top 7 brands are also up one spot on last month due to Tesla (+63%), #1 in September, falling to #8 but posting a strong year-on-year lift. Volkswagen (+15.2%) and Skoda (+9.6%) manage positive results but Toyota (-10.5%), Mercedes (-13.6%), Audi (-21.3%) and Kia (-31.3%) all skid. Peugeot (+81.3%) delivers the largest gain in the Top 10 at #10 with Cupra (+72.8%) equalling its ranking record at #11 and reaching an all-time high 2.8% share. Polestar (+111.3%), Subaru (+83.4%), Porsche (+36.3%) and Mazda (+29.6%) also impress.

Over in the models ranking, the Volvo XC60 (+92.7%) almost doubles its sales year-on-year to reach 7.4% share, the nameplate’s highest in over 7 years: since the 8.5% it hit back in September 2017. he Tesla Model Y (+65.5%) posts a stunning year-on-year jump and ends the month at #2, holding onto its YTD leadership. The Volvo XC40, #1 a year ago, falls painfully to #3. The performance of the month goes to the VW ID.7 up a further three spots on September to a world record 4th place. The Volvo EX30 is back up three ranks on last month to round out the Top 5. Notice also the Volvo S/V60 up 122.9% and the Volvo C40 up 78.4%.
