Brazil October 2024: VW Polo reclaims top spot, strongest market in 10 years

VW Polo sales are up 34.6% year-on-year in Brazil.

New light vehicle sales in Brazil are up a splendid 20.7% year-on-year in October to 249,402 units, this is largest October result since 2014 (291.412). This way the year-to-date tally is up 14.7% to 1,996,421, the highest at this stage of the year since the 2,176,147 units of 2019. Fiat (+16.9%) is solid but below the market’s growth rate to 20.8% share vs. 7.3% at home in Italy. This month Fiat sells 5.7 times more in Brazil than in Italy. Volkswagen (+28.5%) is in great shape at 16.9% share whereas Chevrolet (-9.4%) struggles at 11.7% of the market vs. 12.6% year-to-date. Hyundai (+41.5%) soars two spots on last month to #4, distancing Toyota (+16.2%) and Renault (+8.1%) both relatively weak. BYD (+170.8%) posts the largest gain in the Top 10 above Honda (+78.4%).

The VW Polo (+34.6%) scores its first monthly win since last April, reaching its highest volume of the year. The Fiat Strada (+23.3%) is knocked down to #2 but keeps the YTD lead with a 4,094-unit advantage over the Polo. The Hyundai HB20 (+45.5%) climbs three spots on last month to #3, and ascends to #4 year-to-date as a result. The Fiat Argo (+77.1%) and VW T-Cross (+36.5%) round out the Top 5 in strong fashion. The Hyundai Creta (+45%) is the only additional Top 10 model to outpace the market just as the Chevrolet Onix (-16.8%) and Fiat Mobi (-19.1%) struggle.
