Mexico September 2024: Toyota (+16.5%), Mazda (+14.2%), Volkswagen (+14.1%) shine

Toyota Yaris sales are up 85.3% in September.

116,543 new light vehicles hit Mexican roads in September, a -1.3% year-on-year dip. The year-to-date volume is now up 10.4% to 1,077,637. This is the largest 9-month tally since 2017. Nissan (-7%) sees its market share thaw to 16.1% while Chevrolet (-1%) is at 13.1%, in line with its YTD level of 13.2%. Toyota (+16.5%) is up to 8.7% share while Mazda (+14.2%), Volkswagen (+14.1%) and Kia (+3%) are also in positive in the remainder of the Top 10. In contrast Ford (-17.5%), Honda (-16.2%) and Hyundai (-14.2%) are all hit hard. Further down the charts, notice Mitsubishi (+53.8%), JAC (+24.5%) and Suzuki (+16.3%). Among the rest of Chinese brands, behind MG (#7), Chirey ranks #18, GWM is at #20, Changan at #27, Jetour at #29 and Omoda at #31.

Model-wise, the Nissan Versa (+4.3%) stays on top with 6.1% of the market, the Chevrolet Aveo (-21.3%) overtakes the Nissan NP300 (-13.7%) for 2nd place and the new Kia K3 stays at #4. The VW Virtus (+9.7%) passes the Chevrolet Onix (+56.6%) to #5 and the VW Jetta (+105.4%) and Mazda CX-30 (+100.3%) both more than double their year-ago volumes.
