Our much improved coverage of the Mexican market continues in October with complete models data for brands that had stopped sharing detail in 2018 such as Acura, Honda, Infiniti, Nissan, Renault, Seat and Volkswagen but also for premium brands that had only rarely been available previously such as Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes and Volvo. Its a 17th consecutive month of year-on-year decline for new car sales in Mexico in October at -5.6% to 117.340 units leading to a year-to-date volume down 6.9% to 1.145.824. For the 9th consecutive month, brand leader Nissan (-10%) falls faster than the market at 20.9% share vs. 22.2% so far in 2018, as does Chevrolet (-14%), Volkswagen (-5%) is even with the overall drop but Toyota (+11%) and Kia (+10%) both post striking performances in the remainder of the Top 5, similarly to Mazda (+11%) further down in the Top 10. Below, Jaguar (+500%), Land Rover (+394%), Acura (+94%), Lincoln (+42%), Mercedes (+30%), Mini (+20%), Suzuki (+20%), Volvo (+16%), BMW (+14%), Peugeot (+12%) and Buick (+10%) all impress with spectacular gains.

Over in the models ranking, the Chevrolet Aveo (+52%) takes full advantage of the new generation to edge past the Nissan Versa (+16%) and claim the title of best-selling vehicle in Mexico for the second time in the past 3 months, it remains however almost 13.000 units below the Versa YTD, an unsurmountable gap with only two months left in the year. The VW Vento (+3%) and Chevrolet Beat (-4%) overtake the Nissan Pickup (-5%) to snap the 3rd and 4th spots respectively, with the Kia Rio (+2%) and Mazda3 (+1%) the only additional Top 10 nameplates in positive just as the Nissan Sentra (-41%) and VW Jetta (-17%) crumble down. The Mazda2 (+82%), Mazda CX-5 (+80%), Chevrolet Cavalier (+71%), Toyota Prius (+65%), Honda Civic (+40%), Kia Forte (+32%) and Suzuki Swift (+27%) are among the best performers in the Top 50 that welcomes the Honda BR-V (#27) and Renault Oroch (#49) as its sole recent launches (<12 months). The Seat Arona (#67), Kia Sedona (#83) and Toyota C-HR (#98) follow.
