Brazil September 2024: Market at 5-year high, BYD (+178.8%), Renault (+45.7%) impress

The new Kardian helps Renault sales up in September.

New light vehicle sales in Brazil gain a splendid 18.6% year-on-year in September to 222,243 units. Once again this is the best September volume since pre-pandemic September 2019 (223,240). The year-to-date tally is now up 13.9% to 1,747,019. Fiat (+14.8%) can’t quite catch up with the surging market but easily remains in the brands lead at 22.3% share, to be compared with 7.5% at home in Italy. This month Fiat sells 5.5 times as much in Brazil as it does in Italy. Volkswagen (+19.2%) is solid in 2nd place with 15.9% share ahead of a struggling Chevrolet (-1.2%). Toyota (+23.6%) climbs to 8.% share while Renault (+45.7%) does even better at 6.8% vs. 5.3% year-to-date. BYD (+178.8%) again sports the biggest gain in the market but remains in 10th place, with Honda (+44.8%) and Nissan (+27.6%) also making themselves noticed.

The Fiat Strada (+10.9%) holds onto the models top spot with 6.4% share vs. 5.8% so far this year in an unchanged podium composed of the VW Polo (+29.8%) and Chevrolet Onix (+7.2%). The VW T-Cross (+59.2%) and Fiat Argo (+41.8%) exchange positions vs. August with the Argo ascending to #4 year-to-date as result, overtaking the Hyundai HB20 (-8.6%). The Fiat Cronos (+27.3%) is up 14 ranks on last month to #9 and the Nissan Kicks (+23.1%) is up 2 to #10. Looking at recent launches, the Renault Kardian is up 9 spots on August to #26 and the BYD Dolphin Mini down three to #37.
