Austria September 2024: Tesla Model Y reclaims lead in stable market

The Tesla Model Y is the most popular vehicle in Austria in September.

19,894 new cars hit Austrian roads in September, a tiny +0.3% year-on-year improvement. The year-to-date tally is now up 4.4% to 191,023 units. The Top 3 brands all outpace the market: Volkswagen (+5.1%) keeps the lead with 12.5% share, a mere 117 units above Skoda (+18.9%). BMW (+17.3%) is also in great shape at #3. Audi (+0.1%) is handicapped by a particularly high year-ago performance when its sales were up 78.6% on the year prior. Peugeot (+100.8%) and Tesla (+60.7%) delivers the largest year-on-year gains in the Top 10, ranking #10 and #7 respectively. Below, BYD (+168.3%), MG (+99.3%), Mini (+87.3%) and Volvo (+39.6%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y (+21.1%) is very solid and manages its first win since last March. It ranks #3 year-to-date vs. #2 over the Full Year 2023. Just below is the Skoda Octavia (+11.1%), also at #2 year-to-date whereas it was #1 over the FY2023. The Skoda Fabia (+100.9%) shoots up to #3 vs. #10 YTD, ahead of the BMW X1 (+61.5%) and VW Tiguan (+63.7%). The Hyundai i30 (+38.9%) surges back inside the Top 20 at #6. Excellent scores also by the Seat Ibiza (+109.2%), VW Polo (+131.5%), Tesla Model 3 (+1547.1%) and Mini Cooper (+87.3%).
