Uruguay August 2024: Volkswagen at highest in 3.5 years

Volkswagen holds 10.9% of the Uruguayan market in August.

New light vehicle sales in Uruguay advance 8.6% year-on-year in August to 5,510 units. This brings the year-to-date tally up 8.2% to 38,929. The Top 2 carmakers disappoint with year-on-year declines. Chevrolet is down -12.2% to 14.4% share vs. 16.4% so far this year and Fiat is off -8.6% to 12.8% vs. 13% YTD. In contrast the next 6 brands deliver double-digit gains at leads, Volkswagen is up 29.4% to third place with 10.9% share, its first time above 10% since May 2023 (10.2%) and highest share since February 2023 (12.1%). Renault (+38%) and Hyundai (+16.3%) follow while BYD (+152.1%) lodges the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 again and climbs three ranks on July to #6. Suzuki (+42.5%) and Citroen (+23%) also shine at #7 and #8 respectively.
