Turkiye August 2024: Third gen Duster launches under Renault branding

The Duster switches from Dacia to Renault branding for the third generation.

New light vehicle sales in Turkiye return to positive territory in August at +4.3% year-on-year to 90,134. This is a new August record, eclipsing the 86,454 units reached just last year. The year-to-date volume also stands at an all-time high after 8 months at 762,152 (+0.9%). Fiat (+59%) rallies back up on a particularly weak year-ago result to snap 12.4% of the market, similar to its YTD level. Renault (-10%) suffers at #2, albeit up two spots on July. Note that when only taking account Passenger Cars, Renault has overtaken Fiat over the first 8 months of the year at 71,988 sales vs. 56,996 at Fiat, to be compared with 65,865 and 85,334 over the same period in 2023. Note also that Fiat’s Turkish August sales are more than twice their Italian volume. Ford (-1.7%) edges down but stays in third place. Opel (+5.1%) and Volkswagen (+4.7%) narrowly beat the market and round out the Top 5. Nissan (+120.9%), Skoda (+54.8%) and Honda (+49.5%) stand out below. Jaecoo lands in the Turkish market directly at #24 with 0.7% share, that’s already better than local EV brand Togg (-69.4%) completely imploding to #25.

Over in the models ranking, the Fiat Egea Sedan keeps the lead above the Renault Clio and Megane Sedan. The VW Polo is up one spot on last month to #4 ahead of the Nissan Qashqai up three to #4. The Ford Focus Sedan and Estate is up 16 to #6 while the Dacia Sandero Stepway shoots up from outside the July Top 40 directly to #7. The Fiat Egea Cross is back inside the Top 10 at #8 with the Peugeot 2008 (+10 spots) and Opel Mokka (+15) closing out this Top 10. The Tesla Model Y soars to #13 whereas the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro falls 12 ranks on July to #14. First appearances inside the Top 40 for the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max (#18), the third generation Duster now produced locally and branded Renault (#19), the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max (#28), the Chery Omoda 5 Pro (#35) and the Jaecoo 7 (#39).
