Ireland August 2024: Skoda Kodiaq lodges first ever win

The Skoda Kodiaq is the best-selling vehicle in Ireland in August.

It’s a 6th consecutive month of year-on-year decline for the Irish new car market in August at -8.6% to 7,552 sales. It sends the year-to-date tally down at -0.9% to 112,154. Kia (+25.1%) ignores the market gloom to score its first pole position since September 2023 with an outstanding 13.6% share vs. 7.7% so far this year (#5). Skoda (-3.7%) advances two spots on last month to #2 but recedes year-on-year as it ranked #1 in August 2023. Volkswagen (+12.9%) and Toyota (+31.4%) both display tremendous gains whereas Hyundai (-20.3%) and Audi (-10.9%) struggle below. Notice also Tesla up 4% to #7 and 4.8% share vs. #16 and 1.9% share year-to-date.

The Top 4 models defy the negative market with double-digit gains or more. The Skoda Kodiaq (+73.3%) soars to first place for the first time (previous best: #4 last February). It distances the Kia Sportage (+24%), Tesla Model 3 (+63.3%) and VW Tiguan (+117.2%). The Skoda Octavia (-2.4%) manages to keep its loss below the market rate at #4 but it’s not the case for the Hyundai Tucson (-17%) and Kona (-30.1%). The Tucson however retains its YTD top spot and is on course to rank #1 over the Full Year for the 4th time in a row. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+101%), Corolla Cross (+65%) and VW Golf (+72.2%) round out the Top 10 in stellar fashion.
