Slovakia May 2024: VW T-Cross (+220.3%), Hyundai i30 (+87.3%) stand out in negative market
The T-Cross lodges another stellar month in Slovakia.
The Slovak new car market is off -9.3% year-on-year in May to 7,294 sales, but the year-to-date tally remains in positive territory at +3.5% to 38,396 units. Brand leader Skoda (-9%) roughly matches the market to a solid 20.8% share compared with 21.2% year-to-date. Toyota (+6.5%) and even more strikingly Volkswagen (+20.1%) ignore the negative context to lodge clear upticks. Hyundai holds reasonably well (-9.1%) whereas Kia (-38.5%) and Dacia (-21.1%) sink. Suzuki (+23.4%) and Mercedes (+3.2%) are the only additional gainers in the remainder of the Top 10.
The Skoda Octavia (-25.1%) easily retains the top spot in the models ranking with 5.4% share even though it endures a harsh year-on-year drop. It’s not the case for a euphoric Hyundai i30 (+87.3%) and a strong Skoda Fabia (+10.7%). Below a slow Dacia Duster (-8.3%), the VW T-Cross (+220.3%) lodges another fantastic result at #5 and now ranks #11 year-to-date vs. #31 over the Full Year 2023. The Skoda Kodiaq (+75.9%), Scala (+22.9%), Toyota Corolla (+13.3%) and Skoda Kamiq (+4%) also stand out below.
