Russia May 2024: Jaecoo, Belgee X50 and Changan CS55 Plus crack Top 10
Jaecoo is now among the 10 best-selling brands in Russia.
127,128 new passenger cars found a buyer in Russia in May, a 76.2% year-on-year increase just as the year-to-date volume improves 86.4% to 594,917. This shows once again that sanctions against Russia are not working anymore. Lada (+81.9%) remains the uncontested leader in the brands ranking and even manages to outpace the market to 31.5% share. The Top 7 brands are unchanged on last month, with Haval (+88.6%) dominating at 11% share above Chery (+74.9%) at 10.2% and Geely (+53.5%) at 8.1%, the latter two however trailing the market growth. Changan (+403.2%) once again drivers the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 on a low year-ago basis. Omoda (+86.4%) is also strong at #6. Three newcomers round out the Top 10: Belgee, a joint-venture between the Belarusian government and Geely, climbs to a record #8 follow by Jetour while Jaecoo breaks into the Top 10 for the first time at #10. This means Chery has no less than five brands inside the Russian Top 10 this month: its namesake Chery, Omoda, Exeed, Jetour and Jaecoo.
Over in the models ranking, the Lada Granta (+17.4%) limits its gain but sports a 14.6% market share, above the 13.4% it holds year-to-date. The Lada Vesta (+5553.9%) stays in 2nd place with a surreal year-on-year uptick as production was paused a year ago. The Haval Jolion (+64.4%) is the best-selling foreign model at #3 just as the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max (+63.3%) and Chery Tiggo 4 Pro (+122%) both advance two spots on last month to #4 and #5 respectively. In contrast the Lada Niva Travel (+30.9%) and Niva Legend (+37%) both fall two ranks to #6 and #7. The new Belgee X50 makes its entrance inside the Top 10 at #8 as does the Changan CS55 Plus (+701.1%) at #9.
