Romania April 2024: Dacia Logan claws back on top in surging market
The Dacia Logan is #1 at home for just 13 sales.
After freefalling -23.5% in March, the Romanian new car market rallies back up 34.6% year-on-year this month to 13,276. This means the year-to-date volume is now only a tiny fraction in negative at -0.7% to 46,505. Dacia (+33.7%) almost matches its home market to climbs back up to 29.4% share, while the Top 4 brands are identical to March and YTD. Toyota (+101%) skyrockets up to 10.4% share vs. 8.6% so far this year whereas Skoda (+22.5%), Renault (+17.8%) and Volkswagen (+10.9%) can’t catch up with the overall growth. Suzuki (+87.1%) is the only remaining Top 10 member to beat the market, with Hyundai (-2.6%) hit hard. Kia (+113.2%), Opel (+94.9%) and Ssangyong (+86.7%) stand out below.
Model-wise, after two months of clear domination by the Dacia Duster, the Dacia Logan (+21.2%) claws back on top for just 13 sales with 9.4% share. The Duster for its part is up 61.1% year-on-year at #2 and easily holds onto the YTD top spot for now. The Dacia Sandero (+58.7%) is back up to its usual third place while the Toyota Corolla (+177.7%) shoots up to #4 vs. #7 year-to-date and #9 over the Full Year 2023. The Toyota RAV4 (+260.8%) also scores a surreal gain at #7. Weak month for the Dacia Jogger (+12.5%) at #6 and the Dacia Spring (-13.4%) at #8.
