Ireland April 2024: Volkswagen passes Toyota in market off -3.6%
The VW Tiguan ranks #3 in Ireland in April.
New car sales in Ireland edge down -3.6% year-on-year in April to 8,591 units, leading to a year-to-date cume up 6% to 71,110. Strikingly, 6 of the Top 7 carmakers are in positive. Volkswagen (+35.7%) and Hyundai (+70.9%) stun on the podium while Toyota (+11.7%) loses its pole position but still defies the market with a positive result. Audi (+28.8%), BMW (+22.1%) and Skoda (+5.8%) also shine as does Seat (+11%) in the remainder of the Top 10. BYD is up 476.2% year-on-year and 6 spots on last month to #16, its best monthly ranking in Ireland so far.
The Hyundai Tucson (+195.5%) triples its sales year-on-year to return to its traditional pole position, improving its lead over the Skoda Octavia (+96.6%) to almost 400 sales. The VW Tiguan (+133.3%), VW Polo (+179.4%) and Hyundai Kona (+414%) also score surreal gain to round out the Top 5. The Toyota Corolla Cross (+834.6%) is up 6 spots on March to #7 with the Toyota RAV4 (+97.3%) also impressive at #9. Four Volkswagens follow: the T-Roc (-28.3%), Golf (+104%), T-Cross (+250%) and ID.4 (-30.6%).
