Netherlands March 2024: Tesla Model Y and Model 3 on top, Volvo EX30 up to #4
The Volvo EX30 is up to #4 in the Netherlands in March.
37,119 new cars found a buyer in the Netherlands in March, a -0.5% year-on-year decline. Keep in mind March 2023 was up a whopping 51.1% on the year prior. The Q1 2024 result is up 4% to 101,849. BEVs are down -1.1% to 13,051 and 35% share for the month and up 19.7% over Q1 to 30,068 and 29.5% share. Looking at other fuel types, in March HEVs stand at 15,406 sales and 41.5% share, Petrol at 7,991 and 21.5% share, diesel at 415 and 1.1% share and LPG at 256 and 0.7% share.
Toyota (+140.9%) posts a surreal year-on-year gain to top the brands charts both for the month and over Q1. The Japanese company ranked #3 over the Full Year 2023. Just 22 sales below is Tesla (+25.2%) which unlike other European markets so far actually manages a solid uptick. Volvo (+54.5%) is also in great shape at #3 both in March and YTD vs. #10 over FY2023. Kia (+12.5%) and BMW (+11.8%) are shyer yet also beat the market. Mercedes (+28.1%) is up to #7 vs. #14 over FY2023. The next 8 carmakers are all in negative but Mitsubishi (+329.6%) and Suzuki (+34.6%) post stellar results. Chinese brands are suffering and all sell less than 200 units this month. Lynk & Co is off -80.5% and MG down -74.6%.
Tesla dominates the models ranking with a 1-2: the Model Y (+1%) is in the lead above the Model 3 (+100.5%). The Toyota Aygo X (+420.5%) surges to #3, a ranking it also holds YTD vs. #10 over the Full Year 2023. The new Volvo EX30 shoots up 18 ranks on February to land at an excellent 4th place with 3.2% share. Leader last month, the Volvo XC40 (-9.7%) falls to #5 and #2 year-to-date. The Kia Niro (+71.5%), Toyota Yaris (+164.5) and Yaris Cross (+19.2%) also post sensational gains below.
