According to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), new vehicle sales in Malaysia are up 10.9% year-on-year in 2023 to an all-time high 799,731 units, eclipsing the previous record of 721,177 established just last year. Passenger Vehicles gain 12% to 719,160 while Commercial Vehicles are up just 2% to 80,571. Electrified vehicles leap 69% from 22,619 to 38,214 units, holding a 4.8% market share vs. 3.1% in 2022. Among these, there are 10,159 BEV and 28,055 hybrid vehicles. Still based on MAA’s press release, “this great result can be attributed to a number of factors, namely the fulfilment of tax-free cars booking received, a much more stable socio-political environment, resilient domestic economy, many new launches and much improved supply chain”.
