Czechia Full Year 2023: 6 Skodas in Top 6 for the first time, Octavia at highest since 2018

The Czech new car market gains a solid 15.3% year-on-year in 2023 to 221,422 units. Local behemoth Skoda (+23.2%) beats its home market to improve its share to 35%, its highest since 2020. Hyundai (+7.9%) is much weaker but stays #2. In fact the entire Top 5 is unchanged on 2022. Volkswagen (+18.2%) closes out the podium ahead of a surging Toyota (+35%) up from 6.7% share in 2022 to a record 7.9% this year. Kia (+11.9%) trails the market above Mercedes (+17.9%). BMW (+30.6%) is the only additional Top 10 brand to beat the market with Ford (-23.6%), Dacia (-14.9%) and Peugeot (-10.9%) all disappointing. Below, MG (+536.3%), Tesla (+443%), Alfa Romeo (+127.6%), Lexus (+70.5%), Subaru (+55.1%) and Suzuki (+53.2%) stand out.
The Skoda Octavia (+56.9%) surges up from 7.2% to 9.9% share, its highest since 2018 (also 9.9%). It sells more than double the amount of the #2, the Skoda Fabia (-18%) in freefall. The Octavia has now been the best-seller at home for 14 of the past 15 years, a streak that started in 2009. Skoda monopolises the Top 6 for the first time in history. It managed 7 models in the Top 7 in April and May. The Scala (+50.6%) gains three spots to #3, the Kamiq (+38.3%) is up one to #4, the Karoq (+13.5%) is down one to #5 and the Kodiaq (+36.9%) is up two to #6. The Hyundai i30 (-6.2%) remains the best-selling foreigner but drops four ranks to #7. In contrast the Hyundai Tucson (+11.7%) is up one spot to #8 and the VW Golf (+74.9%) reappears inside the Top 10 at #10 and peaked at #2 in August. The Skoda Superb (-2.2%) makes it 7 Skodas in the Top 9.
