Sweden November 2023: 9 SUVs in Top 9

The Volvo XC40 is the best-selling vehicle in Sweden in November.

New car sales in Sweden edge down -0.7% year-on-year in November to 25,406 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 3.1% to 260,391. BEVs actually drop -7.3% year-on-year this month to 10,076 and 39.7% share vs. 42.5% a year ago and PHEVs are down -6.1% to 5,307 and 20.9% share vs. 22.1% in November 2022. All in all, rechargeable cars sink -6.2% to 60.5% share vs. 64.6% a year ago.

Volvo (-16.3%) is hit hard but easily retains the brands top spot with 15.9% share vs. 13.5% so far this year. Volkswagen (-3.3%) also drops faster than the market at #2. In contrast the next four carmakers all post positive results. Toyota is up 11.4%, Kia up 5.4%, Audi up 5.5% and Tesla up 174.4% to #6. Skoda (+33.9%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10 with BMW (-1.7%) weak and Mercedes (-18.5%) and Ford (-14.9%) underperforming. Below, notice BYD (+212.5%), Suzuki (+118.1%), Lexus (+49.4%) and Dacia (+38.3%) all posting fantastic results. 

Model-wise, the Volvo XC40 (-21.3%) repeats at #1 despite a sharp year-on-year fall while the faraway leader in the year-to-date charts, the Tesla Model Y (+132.8%) rallies back up four spots on last month to end November in 2nd place. The Volvo XC60 (+8.5%) is up one rank on October to return to its YTD ranking at #3, followed by the VW ID.4 (-2.6%). The Soda Enyaq (+90.1%) repeats at a strong 5th place, distancing the Toyota RAV4 (-3.6%). The Kia Niro (+12%), Audi Q4 E-Tron (+126%) and Kia Sportage (-5.9%) make it 9 SUVs in the Top 9! Notice also the Kia RV9 up to #17 for its 2nd month in market.
