Record market share for the Tesla Model Y in Iceland.
New car sales are stable year-on-year in Iceland in November at +0.1% to 1,297 units. This means through November the market is up 5.7% to 16,094. Tesla (+128%) has a gigantic month in Iceland, accounting for no less than 48.3% of the market in November, a new record. It now accesses the year-to-date top spot with 18.6% share. A faraway 2nd, Toyota (-36.3%) is down to just 7.2% share vs. 16.3% so far this year. Kia (-43.2%) is also in great difficulty at #3 whereas Hyundai (+117.6%) scores a splendid year-on-year lift. Skoda (+63.2%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10 at #8.
Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y skyrockets to a barely believable 46% share, thanks to almost 600 units sold in just one month. It now holds 17.3% of the market year-to-date. The Polestar 2 sells 16.5 times less but still manages to snap the 2nd place overall with 2.8% share. It ranks #10 year-to-date. The Toyota bZ4X is up three spots on October to #3, distancing the Hyundai Kona and Tesla Model 3. The Kia EV9 makes a splash for its entrance into the Icelandic market, landing directly at #7. Excluding the Kona, all Top 10 models are pure EVs, with the Skoda Enyaq, VW ID.4, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai Ioniq 5 filling the remaining spots.
