Vietnam October 2023: Hyundai and Mazda CX-5 in charge, sales sink -26.6%
The Hyundai Custin has landed in the Vietnamese charts.
VAMA data shows a Vietnamese new vehicle market down a heavy -30.6% year-on-year in October to 25,369, leading to a year-to-date volume off -29.3% to 235,298. These figures climb to 32,827 (-26.6%) and 305,404 (-26.5%) when adding Hyundai who reports separately. Note VinFast stopped communicating monthly sales figures. Hyundai (-8.8%) contains its loss into the single-digit to rise to 22.7% share vs. 15.9% so far this year. Thaco-Kia (-22.1%) also improves its market share year-on-year to 16.3% share whereas Toyota (-53.5%) completely implodes. Mazda (+12.1%) and Honda (+23.2%) are the only gainers in the Top 10. Below, BMW/Mini (+221%) and Lexus (+68.5%) shoot up.
Model-wise, the Mazda CX-5 (+118.8%) goes completely against the depressed market to sign a third consecutive win with 6.7% share, well above the #2, the Ford Ranger (-38.4%), at 4.5%. The CX-5 advances to #2 year-to-date as a result vs. #8 over the Full Year 2022. The Hyundai Accent (-22.6%) and Toyota Vios (-33.4%) both fit within 12 sales of the Ford Ranger. The Hyundai Tucson (+54%) delivers a very impressive result and climbs from #17 in September to #6 this month. The Kia Sonet (+9.5%) is the only additional gainers in the Top 10. We welcome the Hyundai Custin at #25 and the Hyundai Palisade at #61.
