Taiwan October 2023: Toyota Yaris Cross lands directly at #5

The Toyota Yaris Cross is an instant blockbuster in Taiwan.

New car sales in Taiwan advance by a solid 10.7% year-on-year in October to 40,540 units. The year-to-date tally is now up 12.1% to 390,260. Toyota (+4%) is a little soft but achieves a commanding 27.8% market share vs. 26.4% year-to-date. Honda (+45.7%) and Nissan (+14.3%) complete the podium like in September, with Mercedes (-8.9%) struggling just below. Hyundai (+59.8%), Lexus (+38.4%) and CMC (+20.8%) all beat the market to whereas Ford (-30.9%) freefalls. Volkswagen (-5%) and Mazda (-27.1%) round out the Top 10.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla Cross (-10.9%) edges down but remains by far the most popular vehicle in Taiwan, distancing the Honda CR-V (+9.7%) and Toyota RAV4 (-3.7%). The Toyota Town Ace (+61.1%) soars year-on-year but drops two spots on September to #4. It’s an instant blockbuster status for the new Toyota Yaris Cross landing directly in 5th place overall for its first month in market. Note the Taiwanese Yaris Cross is the south-eastern Asia one and different from the one sold in Europe, Japan and Australia. The MG HS (+254.8%) continues to impress at #8 with the Nissan X-Trail boosted to #9 by the new generation.
