Netherlands August 2023: Tesla up 13-fold, places Model Y at #1 and Model 3 at #4
The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling vehicle in the Netherlands in August.
27,825 new cars hit Dutch roads in August, a solid 18.6% year-on-year lift. The year-to-date volume is now up 29.1% to 257,059. Kia (+7.2%) repeats at #1 and is the only manufacturer to cross the 10% share milestone for the month at 10.6%. Volkswagen (+10.1%) stays at #2 but remains the YTD leader with sales up 59.2%. Toyota (+46.9%) camps on the third place it also holds YTD while Tesla (+1302.8%) posts an extravagant year-on-year gain now that backloaded quarters smooth out. Skoda (+50.7%) and BMW (+39.1%) both vastly outpace the market while below, Jeep (+538.9%), MG (+401.2%), Land Rover (+174.5%) and Suzuki (+62.7%) stand out.
Over in the models ranking, the Tesla Model Y (+1192.6%) is back up to #1 for the third time this year but the first time in the middle of a quarter. It cements its YTD domination at 3.3% share. The Kia Picanto (+60.8%), leader last month, is relegated to 2nd place but still shines with 3.8% share vs. 2.9% year-to-date. #1 over the Full Year 2022, the Peugeot 208 (+5.3%) repeats in third place ahead of the Tesla Model 3 (+1566.7%) up a whopping 38 spots on July to #4. The Fiat 500 (+63.2%) and Toyota Yaris (+27.7%) are the only additional Top 10 members to beat the market while the Toyota Aygo X (+13%), Skoda Enyaq (+12%) and Kia Niro (+6.1%) are rather shy and the VW Polo (-31.8%) sinks.
