Mexico August 2023: Nissan Versa and Chevrolet Aveo on top of charts
A new generation helps the Chevrolet Aveo this month.
The Mexican new light vehicle market surges 23.8% year-on-year in August to 113,873 units, in line with its YTD rate at +23.6% to 857,803. Nissan (+61.9%) compensates for a stock-affected year-ago result to climb back to 18.6% share vs. 18.1% so far this year. Chevrolet (+18.3%) is a lot softer yet comfortably in positive. Volkswagen (+45.5%) is also very solid in third place above a weak Kia (+6.7%) and Toyota (+18.8%). Hyundai (+22.8%) is the most dynamic among the remaining Top 10 members, whereas Ford (+14.8%), Mazda (+7.6%) and MG (+7.5%) all trail the market and Suzuki (-8.5%) even loses ground year-on-year.
The Nissan Versa (+50.9%) easily retains the top spot in the models charts with 6.1% share, it distances this month a surging Chevrolet Aveo (+299.2%) up four-fold on its year-ago result. The Aveo overtakes the Nissan Pickup (+90.9%) also in outstanding shape. The Kia Rio (-15.9%) underperforms at #4 while the MG 5 (+1%) is up one spot on July to #5. All remaining Top 10 models frankly upstage the market growth, starting with the VW Jetta (+80.8%), the most dynamic of the lot followed by the Mazda3 (+76.1%), Nissan March (+51.5%), Kicks (+50%) and Sentra (+27.5%). The Hyundai HB20 (#24) is the most popular recent launch above the Ford Territory (#30) and Omoda C5 (#33).
