Russia July 2023: Market down -60.2% on two years ago, Russian and Chinese brands sole sellers

First Top 30 finish for the Haval M6, directly at #16.

The Russian new light vehicle market rallies back up 63% year-on-year in July to 52,832 units but remains down -60.2% on two years ago. The year-to-date tally is now down -9.6% to 333,611 and down -65% on the same period in 2021. Note these figures don’t include Chery, Geely, Exeed, Omoda, Changan, Mercedes, BMW and Mini who only report quarterly. Russian and Chinese brands continue to be the only ones to sell in significant numbers in the country: Russians are up 158.6% to 74% share and Chinese up 163.4% to 25.2% of the market. Lada (+184.6%) is up to 55.6% share, distancing Haval (+380.9%) at 18%, GAZ (+68.4%) at 9.1%, UAZ (+114.8%) at 7.3% and newcomer Tank at 3.1%. FAW (+424.4%) and Great Wall (+430.6%) also shine below.

Model-wise, the Lada Granta (+162.5%) remains ultra dominant at 32.5% share ahead of the Lada Niva (+591%) at #2. Now that production has resumed, the Lada Vesta (+214.7%) climbs to #3, meaning the entire podium is composed of Ladas. The Haval Jolion (+319.1%) retrogrades to #4 while the GAZ Gazelle (+74.2%) rounds out the Top 5 like last month. The Haval F7 (+587.3%), UAZ Classic Commercial (+147.3%) and Haval Dargo (+452.3%) all post surreal gains below. The new Tank 500 is up seven spots to #11 and the Sollers Atlant up three to #14. We welcome the Haval M6 inside the Russian Top 30 for the first time, directly landing at #16.
