Ireland July 2023: Toyota Corolla Cross #2, MG 4 #9, market up 23.9%
The Toyota Corolla Cross is up to a record 2nd place in July.
July is the month of the biannual license plate change and therefore boosted registrations in Ireland. In fact July sales almost equal January volumes at 27,143 (+23.9%) vs. 27,323. After 7 months, the Irish market is up 20.1% to 104,636. Toyota (+18.3%) reclaims the brands top spot with 14.9% share, distancing Hyundai (+42.3%) up three spots on June to #2. Volkswagen (-8.8%) endures the only year-on-year drop in the Top 10 but manages to stay in third place overall. Skoda (+21.1%) can’t quite match the market growth while Kia (+8.4%) is shy. Renault (+112.1%), Ford (+112.1%) and Nissan (+105.6%) excel in the remainder of the Top 10. #1 with 34.6% share last month, Tesla falls to #29 with just 41 sales and 0.2% share.
Over in the models charts, the Hyundai Tucson (+6.4%) returns to the pole position it also holds year-to-date with 5.9% share, head and shoulders above the competition. The Toyota Corolla Cross is up a further seven spots on last month to hit #2, its best ranking in Europe so far. The Nissan Qashqai (+135.4%) and Hyundai Kona (+186.7%) follow and both post fantastic scores while the Toyota Yaris Cross (+10%) is a little timid in context. The Toyota Yaris (+45.1%) and VW Golf (+41.2%) are strong but the most significant event near the top of the ranking is potentially the MG 4 breaking into the Top 10 for the first time at #9.
