Czech Republic June 2023: Skoda Octavia and Scala top market up 9.3%
The Skoda Scala is up to a record 2nd place in June.
The Czech new car market is up 9.3% year-on-year in June to 20,480 sales, a lukewarm result given the fact June 2022 was down -16.9% on the year prior. The H1 2023 volume is now up 16.8% to 115,548. Skoda (+28.1%) vastly outpaces its home market but its market share (33.8%) remains below its YTD level (35.6%). Hyundai (-0.9%) is in difficulty but remains in 2nd place above Volkswagen (+7.6%) and Toyota (+32%). The Top 7 carmakers are in the same order as YTD, with Kia (+5.2%), Mercedes (+8.9%) and a sinking Dacia (-47.5%) in tow. BMW (+49.4%) and Renault (+50.2%) shine whereas Ford (-36.2%) dives. Below, MG (+2457.1%!), Tesla (+388.6%), Lexus (+144.3%) and Suzuki (+127.6%) all score fantastic gains.
Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+122.3%) remains ultra dominant at 11.2% share vs. 10.1% so far this year. The second place is held by the Skoda Scala (+88.6%) equalling its ranking record also hit in October 2021. The Skoda Karoq (-5.9%) is down one spot on May to #3 ahead of the Skoda Kamiq (+69.7%) and Fabia (-29.2%) stuck at a low 5th place. This time foreigners manage to enter the Top 7, with the Hyundai i30 (-17.4%) and Tucson (-10.1%) at #6 and #7 respectively. The VW Golf (+50.7%) and Skoda Superb (+27%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10.
