Czech Republic May 2023: Skoda has 7 models in Top 7 again, Octavia ultra dominant
The Skoda Octavia holds 11.8% of its home market in May.
20,298 new cars hit Czech roads in May, a 12.3% year-on-year uptick leading to a year-to-date volume up 18.6% to 95,068 units. Local behemoth Skoda (+36%) vastly outpaces its home market to reach 36.1% share. The next four carmakers all underperform: Hyundai (-5.3%) struggles while Volkswagen (+8.5%), Kia (+5.1%) and Toyota (+0.4%) post timid gains. Mercedes (+13.4%) edges past the market growth with BMW (+42.9%), Dacia (+41.8%) and Audi (+32.8%) all in great shape. Suzuki (+178.7%), MG (+19500%) and Tesla (+4175%) also make waves below.
Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (+237.5%) is ultra dominant at 11.8% share vs. 4.7% for the #2, the Skoda Karoq (-9.3%). Skoda places 7 models in the monthly Top 7 for only the third time in history alongside last month and January 2022. The Kodiaq (+27.9%) advances to #3 ahead of the Superb (+17.6%), Fabia (-23.7%), Kamiq (+47.5%) and Scala (-1.7%). The Skoda Enyaq (+91.4%) is once again the odd one out in the manufacturer’s range at #35. The Hyundai i30 (-27.9%) is the best of the rest this month at #8, with the VW Golf (+75.1%) and Hyundai Tucson (+4.8%) rounding out the Top 10.
