Vietnam April 2023: Vinfast VF e34 overall best-seller, VF 8 in 4th place, market off -40.5%
The VinFast VF e34 is the best-selling vehicle in Vietnam in April.
Data by local association VAMA shows a Vietnamese market freefalls -47.1% year-on-year in April to just 22,409 units, leading to a year-to-date volume off -30.2% to 92,801. When adding non VAMA members (Hyundai and VinFast EV sales), these figures climb to 30,799 for the month (-40.5%) and 116,701 year-to-date (-30.4%). Hyundai (-34%) is once again the best-selling manufacturer in the country with 14.9% share, followed not far behind by Thaco-Kia at 14% of the market (-54.2%) and Toyota at 13.8% (-51.2%). Local carmaker VinFast soars 56.5% to 4th place with 12.3% share, and this is by only counting EV sales. Ford (+70.6%) is even more dynamic in 5th place, with Suzuki (+23.7%) and BMW/Mini (+33.1%) the only additional manufacturers in positive.
Model-wise, there is a big surprise atop the charts: seemingly free of production backlogs, the VinFast VF e34 (+474.4%) is the overall best-seller by a large margin: it towers at 7.6% market share vs. 4.6% for the #2, the Ford Ranger (-0.4%). VinFast has launched 4 EVs in recent months: the e34, VF 8 (4th this month), VF 9 (#36) and VF 5 Plus (#54). The Toyota Corolla Cross (-43%) completes the podium as it did last month. #1 in April 2022, the Honda City (-62.3%) skids to #5, this is however much better than the #11 spot it fell to in March. Down from #1 last month to #6, the Mitsubishi Xpander (-34.4%) holds onto the year-to-date pole position. It ranked #3 over the Full Year 2022.
