Israel March/Q1 2023: Chery up to #4, BYD Atto 3 overall best-seller
The BYD Atto 3 is the best-selling vehicle in Israel over the first quarter of 2022.

New car sales in Israel are up 6.3% year-on-year in March to 29,540 units, leading to a Q1 2023 tally up 17% to 105,868. In the brands ranking, Hyundai (-8.1%) easily holds onto the top spot with 17.9% share despite falling year-on-year. It distances Kia (+20.4%) up to 13.5% of the market and Toyota (-39.6%) in freefall but still ranking #3. Chinese newcomer Chery is up three spots on February to a record 4th place with 5.6% share. Peugeot (+19%) is up 8 ranks to round out the Top 5 ahead of Skoda (+22.6%), Tesla (+178.2%) and Mazda (+14.8%) all beating the market. Notice also Geely at #12, Ora at #28, Leap Motor at #37, WEY at #38 and Voyah at #47.
Model-wise, over Q1 2023 the BYD Atto 3 spectacularly takes the lead and a frank one at the with 5.3% share. It sold 2,865 units in January for a 6.1% market share. The Mazda2 (+42%) follows at 3.2% of the market while the Geely Geometry C (+313%) rounds out the podium above the Hyundai Tucson (+5.1%) and i10 (+340.8%). The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro makes it three Chinese nameplates in the Top 6. The Kia Niro (+17.1%), Hyundai Elantra (+24%) and i20 (+189.5%) all outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas the Kia Picanto (-50.8%) sinks.
