Switzerland January 2023: Skoda Karoq and Enyaq on top of market up 3.4%
The Skoda Karoq is the best-selling vehicle in Switzerland for the first time.
16,437 new cars found a home in Switzerland in January, a 3.4% year-on-year improvement. 4×4 sales edge up 3.9% to 8,217 and a round 50% vs. 49.7% a year ago. Petrol sales recede -6% to 5,905 and 35.9% share vs. 39.5% in January 2022, diesel is down -19.7% to 1,628 and 9.9% vs. 12.8%, HEV+MHEV climb 19.3% to 4,667 and 28.4% share vs. 24.6%, PHEV skid -9.4% to 1,387 and 8.4% share vs. 9.6% and BEV soar 33.6% to 2,840 and 17.3% share vs. 13.4% last year.
In the brands ranking, Volkswagen holds onto the top spot thanks to sales shooting up 14.8% to 10.6% share. Skoda (+2.9%) is up two spots on last month to #2 only 119 units below VW. Audi (-2.6%) is in negative above BMW (+14%) in excellent shape. Mercedes (-10.5%) struggles at #5 vs. #3 over the Full Year 2022 whereas Dacia (+64.9%), Toyota (+39.7%) and Ford (+26.7%) all lodge very impressive upticks. Below, Tesla (+576.5%), Maserati (+205.6%) Alfa Romeo (+100%), Land Rover (+76.6%), Cupra (+54%) and Kia (+49.1%) stand out.
Model-wise, two Skodas top the charts for what is potentially the first time in Swiss history. The Karoq (+225.2%) is the overall best-seller for the first time thanks to sales up more than 3-fold on January 2022, and is followed by the Enyaq (+50.2%), threepeating at #2. In contrast, the Octavia (-51.8%), #1 a year ago, dives to #7 this month. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+62.2%) step onto the podium for the first time, it is actually its first foray into the Swiss Top 10 with a previous best of #11 in February 2022. The Audi Q3 (+44%) and BMW X3 (+32.9%) also post fantastic gains to round out the top 5.
