Taiwan October 2022: Mazda (+73.2%), Mercedes (+23.2%) stand out in market up 3.8%

In October, the Taiwanese new car market lodges a fourth year-on-year gain in the past 5 months at +3.8% to 36,626 registrations. The year-to-date volume is now down -5.8% to 348,027. Toyota (+2.1%) trails the market slightly to a still ultra-dominant 29.6% share, 4.6 times the amount of any other carmaker. Mercedes (+23.2%) posts a flamboyant gain to stays at #2 and overtakes CMC to snap the 5th place year-to-date. In the remainder of the Top 10, Honda (-11.6%), CMC (-12.4%), Nissan (-14.7%) and Ford (-29.6%) all struggle whereas Mazda (+73.2%), Volkswagen (+26.6%), Lexus (+20.1%) and Mitsubishi (+19.8%) excel.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla Cross (+4.9%) edges up to sell double the #2, the Toyota RAV4 (-32.5%) in a bad spot. The Honda CR-V (-13.9%) and Toyota Corolla Altis (-24.5%) also endure significant losses below while the CMC Veryca (-2.6%) edges down and rounds out the Top 5. The Mazda CX-5 (+89.5%), Toyota Yaris (+32.2%) and the new Toyota Town Ace (#9) perform very well in the remainder of the Top 10 with the Nissan Kicks (-1.5%) virtually stable and the Ford Focus (-24.8%) lagging well behind its year-ago volume. Notice also the arrival of the MG HS in the Top 60, landing directly at #34 with 0.8% of the market.
