Portugal October 2022: Dacia Sandero wins, Peugeot 308 up to #4, sales up 18.8%
The Dacia Sandero is the most popular vehicle in Portugal in October.
12,560 new cars hit Portuguese roads in October, a 18.8% year-on-year increase. The year-to-date volume now stands at 126,324, up 2.6% over the first 10 months of 2021. Renault (+12.4%) signs its second monthly win of the year after last June with a round 10% share vs. 7.5% so far this year. Leader last month, Mercedes (+30%) is knocked down to #2 but remains above its YTD level at 8.9% vs. 7.7%. Peugeot (-29.9%) implodes at #3 but easily retains the YTD pole position with 10.9% of the market. Dacia (+148.9%) delivers by far the largest gain in the Top 10, lifting to #4 vs. #7 year-to-date. Opel (+64.9%), Ford (+54.7%), Toyota (+50.5%) and Volkswagen (+50%) also score fantastic gains in the remainder of the Top 10 unlike Citroen (+1.6%) and BMW (-24.3%). Below and in order of sales, Fiat (+162.2%), Seat (up an uncharacteristic 75.2%), Skoda (+79.7%), Cupra (+223.3%), DS (+116.7%), Jaguar (+252.6%) and Alfa Romeo (+414.3%) stand out.
Over in the models ranking, the Dacia Sandero scores its first monthly victory this year with 4.9% share vs. 2.8% year-to-date. It distances the Renault Clio (+16.8%) and Citroen C3 (+10%) both failing to capitalise on the market growth. The Peugeot 308 is lifted a spectacular 2921.4% year-on-year by the new generation and climbs to #4 overall ahead of the Mercedes A Class (+28.4%) and Fiat 500 (+196.2%) rounding out the Top 5. The next 6 models vastly outrace the market, with the Hyundai i20 (+984%) the most dynamic ahead of the Toyota Yaris (+419.3%), Ford Puma (+288.6%), Dacia Duster (+264.5%), Opel Corsa (+87.4%) and Renault Captur (+55%).
