Chile September 2022: Mitsubishi L200 and Suzuki S-Presso on top, Peugeot Landtrek in Top 10
The Peugeot Landtrek is inside the Chilean Top 10 for the first time.
The Chilean new light vehicle market confirms it is now on a downward trend in September with sales down for the second consecutive month at -13.9% year-on-year to 36.716 units. Local association ANAC blames the fall on high inflation, the plateauing of job creation and low consumer confidence. The year-to-date tally however remains at record levels for now at +11.8% to 332,495 sales. This month passenger cars drop -11% to 10,723 sales, SUVs are off -18.2% to 19,287, pickups edge down -1.1% to 8,639 and vans sink -28.3% to 3,978. Year-to-date, passenger cars are in negative again at -2.7% to 87,377, SUVs gain 16.5% to 126,394, pickups soar 27.4% to 51.318 and vans are up 8.3% to 32,184.
The Top 3 brands go against the market with positive year-on-year results. Chevrolet (+1%) holds onto the pole position with 8.1% share vs. 8.9% so far this year, and is followed by Toyota (+7%) remaining at #2 and Chery (+9.4%) up six spots on last month to #3. Peugeot (+87.3%) scores by far the largest gain in the Top 10 with Mitsubishi (+11.9%) also in the double digits. Kia (-2.4%) and Ford (-7.7%) manage to contain their loss below the market rate, whereas MG (-47.9%), Suzuki (-29.3%) and Hyundai (-26.9%) all freefall. Below, notice Dongfeng (+152.5%) up to #11, Opel (+150.4%) and Ram (+71.9%) shooting up. For once Chinese brands (-16.2%) can’t catch up with the market and hold 32.3% share vs. 33.5% YTD.
The Mitsubishi L200 (+23.7%) returns to the top spot it holds year-to-date with 4.6% share vs. 3.1% so far this year. The Suzuki S-Presso (+50.7%) brilliantly leaps up 16 ranks on last month to land in 2nd place while the Ford Ranger (-7.6%) goes from outside the August Top 35 directly into third place even though the new generation hasn’t launched here yet. The Chery Tiggo 2 (+24.3%) and Maxus T60 (-25.2%) round out the Top 5. There are three newcomers in the Top 10: the MG ZX (a facelifted ZS) is up four spots to #7, the Peugeot Landtrek is up 15 to #9 and the Ram 700 Pickup up 21 to #10.
