Czech Republic August 2022: Skoda Octavia confirms lead in market edging up 0.8%

The Skoda Octavia is the most popular vehicle in the Czech Republic in August.

The Czech new car market edges up 0.8% year-on-year in August to 16,581 registrations, meaning the year-to-date tally is now off -12.7% to 128,945 units. Skoda (+1%) evolves like its home market but at 29.7% share it is well below the 31.5% it commands YTD. Hyundai (+16.9%) and Volkswagen (+25.1%) both post fantastic gains to close the podium while Toyota (+0.5%) is stable at #4. Ford (+56.1%), Peugeot (+46.8%), Dacia (+37.2%) and BMW (+21.6%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Mercedes (-2.9%) and Kia (-26.9%) are in negative. Below, Cupra (+139%), Mini (+56.3%), Subaru (+22.9%) and Lexus (+22.8%) stand out. Chinese fare Zotye makes its first appearance in the Czech sales charts (and any European charts for that matter) at #46 with 2 sales.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+71.2%) cements its newfound leadership with 7.8% share, widening the YTD gap with the Skoda Fabia (-13.7%). The Hyundai i30 (+4.9%) remains in the third place it holds year-to-date, distancing three Skodas: the Kamiq (-35%), Karoq (-16.3%) and Scala (-11.1%). The Hyundai Tucson (+15.3%) is the 2nd best-selling non-Hyundai model in the charts followed by the Dacia Duster (-1.9%). The Skoda Superb (+41.6%) and VW Golf (-16.9%) close out the Top 10, evolving radically differently. The best-selling recent launch is the Dacia Jogger (#15), above the Toyota Yaris Cross (#19).
