Romania June 2022: Top 5 is 100% Dacia for the first time, first market decline of the year (-6.6%)

The Dacia Jogger is up to #5 at home in June.

The Romanian new car market drops a measured -6.6% year-on-year in June to 11.067 units, that’s the market’s first decline so far this year. The year-to-date tally is now up 23.1% to 58,712. Local manufacturer Dacia (+17.1%) ignores the depleted context to rise to 32.3% share vs. 27.6% so far this year, and in fact the entire podium is in positive with Toyota up 32.5% and Ford ip 13.6%. Only Kia (+17%) also manages a year-on-year uptick in the remainder of the Top 10. Hyundai (-1.1%) is down but outraces the market whereas Renault (-52.3%), Skoda (-32.1%), BMW (-16.7%), Mercedes (-13.4%) and Volkswagen (-13.3%) lose share year-on-year.

Model-wise, the Dacia Logan (-11.3%) remains in the pole position with 10.3% share vs. 9.6% so far this year. For the first time in Romanian history, the Top 5 is entirely composed of Dacia models: the Duster (+8.3%) at #2, the Sandero (-30.9%) at #3, the Spring (+670.8%) at #4 and the new Jogger at a record #5. The locally-produced Ford Puma (-23.1%) is still  the best of the rest at #6, distancing the Toyota Corolla (+28%) and RAV4 (+59.2%) both in outstanding shape. The Hyundai Tucson (-27.6%) and Toyota C-HR (+12.1%) complete the Top 10. Well below the Jogger, the Toyota Yaris Cross (#33) is the 2nd best-selling recent launch in the country above the VW Taigo (#37).
