China imports June 2022: Porsche (+28.2%), Volvo (+22%) ignore market down -18.9%

The Porsche Panamera sees its sales soar 88.7% year-on-year in June.

Just as exports keep expanding, Chinese imports keep imploding at -18.9% year-on-year in June to 70,866 units, leading to a year-to-date volume off -25.5% or over 125,000 units to just 367,304 sales. Lexus (-22.6%) falls faster than the market but holds onto the top spot ahead of Mercedes (-13.9%) resisting well. Porsche (+28.2%) soars and repeats at an excellent the third spot, it is the largest gainer in the Top 16. There are three additional gainers in the Top 10: Volvo (+22%), Mini (+9.8%) and Subaru (+2.3%) just as Toyota (-0.1%) is almost immobile. Audi (-50.1%) and Land Rover (-29.9%) would rather forget this month while BMW (-39.7%) is penalised by the transfer to local production of its former import best-seller the X5.

Model-wise, Lexus trusts the two first spots and now also does it year-to-date with the ES (-28.2%) and RX (+23.1%) in the lead, the latter posting a very strong uptick. The Mercedes GLE (+3.6%) remains in third place while the Porsche Cayenne (+58.1%) surges year-on-year but stays at #4. The Mercedes S-Class (+3.2%) and Porsche Macan (+4.1%) also go against the market with small lifts but it’s the Porsche Panamera (+88.7%) that sports the largest improvement in the Top 10 (and Top 45!). It distances the Volvo XC90 (+39.2%) and Mini (+29.1%) both in great shape.
