Austria June 2022: VW Bus climbs to #1 in June and YTD, sales down -12.7%

The VW Bus is the best-selling vehicle in Austria in June.

New car sales in Austria drop -12.7% year-on-year in June to 22,760, leading to a year-to-date tally off -19.2% to just 108,606 units. Volkswagen (-8.3%) keeps its fall into the single-digits and climbs to 16.2% share as a result vs. 14% halfway through the year. Skoda (-23.2%) remains in 2nd place while Hyundai (+23.4%) swims upstream, rising four ranks on May to land on the third step of the podium. Below, BMW (-9.7%), Seat (-34.5%), Audi (-18.7%) and Ford (-21.7%) are all knocked down one spot as a result. Dacia (+64.4%) lodges the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 (and Top 15) and slices its May ranking in two to reach #8, making Austria yet another European country where the French-Romanian brand overperforms. Kia (+9.4%) also gains ground in the remainder of the Top 10 while further down Peugeot (+37.4%), Toyota (+11%) and Cupra (+255.5%) shine.

Over in the models ranking, the VW Bus (+51.1%) storms into the pole position both in June and over H1 2022, for the latter going from #4 at the end of May. The Tesla Model Y holds 3.5% share in 2nd place and now ranks #6 year-to-date. The Dacia Sandero (+111.6%) comes back from outside the May Top 20 directly into the third spot, a ranking it also holds year-to-date. The Skoda Fabia (-2.1%) and Hyundai Tucson (+1.1%) round out the Top 5. #1 a year ago, the Fiat 500 lineup (-48.8%) ranks 6th this month ahead of the VW T-Roc (-12.4%) and VW Golf (-33%) once ultra dominant in Austria. The Toyota Yaris/Cross is up 70.6% at #9 just as the Ford Galaxy (+43.4%) signs by far its best ranking across Europe at #10. Notice also the Cupra Formentor (+124.3%), Hyundai i30 (+67%) and Audi A3 (+24.9%) sporting fantastic scores.
